Reviewed by: Professional Visa Consultants team of BTW Visas (Saudi Arabia Visa Experts)

Indian citizens can obtain a Saudi Arabia visa through several pathways in 2026. The most common is the tourist e-visa, costing SAR 535 (approx n11,770) including medical insurance and VAT, usually issued within minutes and valid for one year with multiple entries of up to 90 days each. Key 2026 updates: temporary visa restrictions were lifted in June 2025, a new “Visa by Profile” system launches in 2026, and a GCC unified visa is expected. Indian nationals need a passport valid for at least 6 months and mandatory health insurance, with additional requirements depending on visa type

Note: Visa requirements vary with the applicant’s location, profession and circumstances. Consult a visa expert before applying to avoid
delay or rejection

What is a Saudi Arabia Visa?

A Saudi Arabia visa is an official permit issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs that grants Indian citizens legal entry into the Kingdom. Saudi Arabia has transformed since 2019: the tourist e-visa launched in September 2019 opened the country to independent travellers for the first time in modern history, as part of the Vision 2030 strategy.

The reality in 2026 is simpler and more welcoming than most people expect. Women can travel independently without a male guardian, the abaya is no longer mandatory for female tourists (modest dress suffices), and the e-visa process takes minutes from a phone

This guide covers the Saudi visa types most relevant to Indian passport holders, with India-specific advice on fees, documents and processes. We have helped hundreds of Indian tourists, professionals and families navigate Saudi visa applications, and this guide reflects that real-world experience.

Do Indians Need a Visa for Saudi Arabia?

Yes. Indian citizens must obtain a visa before travelling to Saudi Arabia for any purpose — India has no visa-exemption agreement with Saudi Arabia. Convenient pathways exist: the e-visa, Visa on Arrival for eligible travellers, and traditional processing through VFS Tasheer.

Regional India Differences (Attestation & Jurisdiction)

RegionWhat to know
North India (Delhi NCR, UP, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, J&K)High volume of work-visa applicants for construction, driving and security roles. Work-visa document attestation is fastest at the Saudi Embassy in New Delhi.
West India (Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa)VFS Tasheer Mumbai handles the highest volume, with jurisdiction over Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa. Business-visa applicants should keep Chamber of Commerce membership current — Saudi partners often verify it.
South India (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh)Kerala sends the largest number of Indian workers to Saudi Arabia (healthcare, IT, hospitality). Healthcare workers need credential verification through the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS). Malayalam-language documents need notarised English translations.
East & Northeast India (West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Northeast)Kolkata consulate jurisdiction. Attestation turnaround is slower — plan 2–3 extra weeks. Some northeastern states require state-level attestation before MEA attestation.
Bihar / Eastern UPMany first-time passport holders applying for construction work visas. Ensure your passport address matches your current residence — Saudi authorities cross-verify the Indian address on the passport.

Saudi Visa Success Tips for Indian Applicants

Tourist e-visa

  1. Apply at least 24 hours before travel; ensure the name on the application matches the passport exactly.
  2. Use a Saudi-specific 4×6 cm photo with white background — standard passport photos are rejected.
  3. Save a PDF copy of the visa on your phone; a printout is a safe backup.
  4. The e-visa is valid for 1 year from the date of issue, not from first entry — apply close to travel.

Business & family visit

  1. Business: confirm the Saudi inviting company’s commercial registration is active; the invitation letter must match your passport details.
  2. Family visit: the sponsor’s Iqama must be valid well beyond the intended visit; attested relationship documents are the most common failure point.

Work visa

  • Start document attestation at least 6 weeks before travel.
  • Get the medical examination at an approved centre only — tests from non-approved clinics are rejected.
  • Never travel on a visit visa and try to switch to a work visa — it is not allowed and leads to deportation.
  • Register on Absher as soon as your Iqama is issued.

Common Rejection Reasons

ReasonHow to avoid
Passport validity under 6 monthsEnsure 6+ months’ validity from the intended date of entry.
Photo not meeting Saudi specs4×6 cm, white background, no glasses, 80% face coverage.
Mismatched name on documentsEvery document must show your name exactly as on the passport, including middle names.
Incomplete attestation chainFollow the order Notary fi MEA fi Saudi Embassy; a missing step means starting
over.
Overstay on a previous visitNever overstay; fines are SAR 100 per day and can trigger a re-entry ban.

Approval Rates

Visa TypeEstimated Approval RateNotes
Tourist E-visa90–95%Straightforward online approval for legitimate travellers
Visa on Arrival95%+Only denied for passport issues or an ineligible US/UK/Schengen visa
Business Visa85–90%Requires a genuine Saudi business partner and invitation
Family Visit Visa75–85%Sponsor's Iqama validity and relationship proof are critical
Work Visa80–85%Medical and attestation issues are the main causes of denial
